Fish Kitchen Support Volunteer
Fish Kitchen Support is a seasonal volunteer opportunity during our busiest time of year (spring) at our main hospital in Sausalito, CA. See what busy season looks like at The Marine Mammal Center! Adults and youth ages 15 to 17 (read additional information below) can sign up to volunteer in our fish kitchen for a three or four hour shift. This allows our regular, trained animal care volunteers to spend more time in the pens providing patient care. Fish Kitchen Support volunteers assist with the daily tasks such as dishwashing, kitchen cleaning, fish sorting, and food preparation. This role involves standing for long periods of time.
During the busy season, fish kitchen support shifts are open every day, seven days a week, during the following time slots:
- Shift #1: 9am to 1pm
- Shift #2: 2pm to 6pm
- Shift #3: 7pm to 10pm*
* We encourage fish kitchen volunteers to stay later than 10:00pm if possible with the exception of youth currently enrolled in high school. On school nights (Sunday through Thursday), youth currently enrolled in high school can only volunteer on the evening shift until 10:00pm.
Youth 15 to 17 years old must be accompanied by an adult at least 25 years old. There is a maximum of 3 youth per adult. Youth volunteers must come with a waiver signed by their parent or legal guardian. Volunteers must be 15 or older to volunteer in our fish kitchen.
Fish Kitchen Support shifts will open during our busiest time of year,
Spring of 2020.
