2014 Veterinary Science Externship Program
The Marine Mammal Center veterinary externship program provides veterinary students in their final/clinical year of school to gain exposure to marine mammal medicine and rehabilitation. Students will work closely with the veterinary staff and volunteers and participate in animal stranding and husbandry practices, veterinary diagnostics and surgical procedures, clinical rounds, and necropsies. The student will complete a project during the externship and present the results to the staff and volunteers.
The veterinary externship program is only open to students who will be in their fourth/clinical year of veterinary studies at the time of their stay at The Marine Mammal Center. One extern is scheduled for each 3 week block between April 1st and September 15th, with an option for a 4th week if required by their school.
Externships are unpaid positions. Shared housing is available for a $25.00 per week fee at the TMMC Extern house located within the Marin Headlands. Transportation is the extern's responsibility. There is no public transportation to the Center. Priority for preferred externship dates is according to rank during the selection process.
Applications for externships between April 1st and September 15, 2014 are due by March 1, 2013.
