Valentine's Day Comes Early to the Center: Cupid's Arrow, First Harbor Seal Pup of 2011, Arrives!
February 10, 2011

Talk about a special delivery for Valentine's Day! Today The Marine Mammal Center rescued the first harbor seal pup of 2011. A member of the public spotted this especially tiny newborn harbor seal pup at Fitzgerald Marine Reserve in San Mateo County, California. Thankfully, the person did not pick it up, but informed the ranger who promptly called the Center. The Center dispatched a rescue crew. The decision was made to take the pup in because the mother had abandoned the pup and vultures were already circling its vulnerable little body. Named Cupid's Arrow in honor of the upcoming holiday, this petite pup weights only 4.4 kilograms.
