Our public education campaigns are designed to inform about our findings on marine mammal health when these findings are relevant to people and when you can do something to make a difference. Because our work is frontline, we see first-hand the survival issues that marine mammals face and we listen to their messages about their health and the health of the ocean. Sharing this information with you is an important part of our mission.

Seals Can Talk In 1999 The Center began a three year public education campaign designed to educate Bay Area and Northern California residents on the role of marine mammals as "sentinels" of ocean health, and on the importance of monitoring the health of marine mammals and protecting them. Read about the campaign and see a sample ad.
Harbor Seal Pupping Season The “Leave Seals Be” campaign encourages coastal residents and beachgoers to help minimize contact with pups on the beach and to call The Marine Mammal Center. Click here to learn more and see video.
