Diving behaviors of rehabilitated and free-ranging harbor
seal pups
The objective of this study is to compare the diving behaviors,
including depths and durations of dives, surface intervals,
time at depth, and swim velocity, between wild and rehabilitated
pups. This is a collaborative study between The Marine Mammal
Center and Moss Landing Marine Laboratories.
Subcutaneous implantation of radio transmitters in rehabilitated
harbor seal pups
The utility of subcutaneous radio transmitters is being studied
as a more effective option for tracking rehabilitated harbor
seal pups. This is a collaborative study between The Marine
Mammal Center and Moss Landing Marine Laboratories.
Post-release survival and behaviors of captive-reared
Steller sea lions (Eumetopias jubatus)
This is an on-going
study, during which threatened Steller sea lion pups rehabilitated
at The Center are tagged with satellite-linked time-depth
recorders to assess their movements, diving behavior, and
post-release survival.
