Mattison Peters, DVM, MPH

Veterinary Research Associate

Dr. Mattison Peters first joined The Marine Mammal Center as an animal care volunteer and stranding intern in 2014. Her time at the Center inspired her to go to veterinary school as well as pursue a master’s degree in public health. She returned to the Center as a veterinary extern during her last year of veterinary school in 2020. 

After a year-long small animal rotating internship in Monterey, Mattison joined the Center’s staff full-time as Intern Veterinarian in August 2021 and a year later shifted into a role as Veterinary Fellow. She is now the Veterinary Research Associate, focusing on to research related to conservation medicine and marine mammal health.

Mattison earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from Wesleyan University and graduated from the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University with a combined Master of Public Health degree investigating Vibrio in oysters in relationship to food safety.

Mattison is a hopelessly devoted Oakland A’s fan and enjoys spending time with her yellow lab named Liam.
