The Myth of Monstro and Other Whale Tales

Where: The Walt Disney Family Museum, Presidio of San Francisco

In Walt Disney’s classic film Pinocchio, Monstro the whale swallows Geppetto, Figaro, Cleo, and, ultimately, Pinocchio. But, is it really possible to be swallowed by a whale? How big can sperm whales get? Join Adam Ratner, marine biologist and Guest Experience Manager at The Marine Mammal Center, to learn more about some of the largest animals in the ocean.

Souls of the Vermilion Sea

Wildlife Awakening
When: Sunday, August 7, 2016
Where: The Lodge at Cavallo Point, Fort Baker

The Marine Mammal Center is proud to once again be working with the Sausalito Film Festival to promote conservation awareness. Please join us on August 7th at 5PM at Cavallo Point for an evening the festival has dubbed “Wildlife Awakening.” Featured will be three provocative, short films along with hosted panel discussions. The focus of the Center will be Souls of the Vermilion Sea: Searching for the Vaquita,” a short film by Wild Lens, a nonprofit video production company focused on addressing wildlife conservation issues.

Marine Science Sunday: Under the Bridge

Where: The Marine Mammal Center, Marin Headlands

Join us for Marine Science Sunday in August. This month's program is called Under The Bridge: Marine Mammals of SF Bay and focuses on the amazing marine mammals that can be found in our own backyard. This FREE interactive classroom series is educational and fun, a great day for both adults and kids.

Aloha Outrigger Races

Aloha Outrigger Races and Polynesian Festival
When: Sunday, August 21, 2016
Where: Santa Cruz Wharf

Join us in Santa Cruz for an exciting day of outrigger races and Polynesian culture. The Marine Mammal Center will host an educational outreach booth that will focus on Hawaiian monk seals and Ke Kai Ola, our rescue hospital in Kona, on the Big Island of Hawaii. It's all part of a Polynesian Festival that features fresh flower leis, Hawaiian shaved ice, Maori face painting, print making, and dance performances.

Sea Lion Soirée 2016

Sea Lion Soirée

Celebrate another year of veterinary, scientific and educational achievements at the Sea Lion Soirée. This year we will focus on The Science Behind the Center, with a release at Rodeo Beach, followed by a reception and educational activities for all ages, and finishing up with dinner under the tent.
