Each year our education programs teach thousands of students and the public about marine mammals, what they can tell us about ocean health and the urgent need for stewardship of Earth's marine environments.
Our close contact with marine mammals gives us the unique opportunity to learn about the species we treat, their health, and the issues facing their survival. We share what we have learned in order to foster an understanding of the interdependence between the animals, the oceans, the planet, and ourselves.
Visit The Marine Mammal Center’s veterinary hospital and education facility to learn from our knowledgeable docents and engaging exhibits. We invite you to partake in our multi-sensory, informative and unique programs and tours for individuals (Docent-Led Tours), Audio Tours, and those for groups of all ages. Explore the marine mammal information pages to learn about local species before your visit. What better way to inspire and inform children of all ages than to let you experience the sights and sounds of our seal and sea lion patients and allow you to watch our dedicated volunteers and staff at work!
School programs and tours are hands-on, geared to specific grade levels, and support the California State Science Standards. The Whale Bus travels to schools, turning classrooms into marine mammal museums. Discover the wild Sea Lions in the City at PIER 39 in San Francisco. Learn about our Marine Science Discovery Program that engages high schools students in underserved communities, enriching their lives with new experiences in marine biology. Learn with us!
