The New York Times: Scientists Begin Testing Bird Flu Vaccine in Seals

In response to the increasing threat of bird flu, marine mammal researchers are hoping to provide a life-saving, preventative vaccine for endangered Hawaiian monk seals.

Krista leads the organization’s marketing and communication efforts. She shares the Center’s stories and brings its creative campaigns to life, inspiring people to save marine mammals and their ocean home.

Prior to joining the Center, Krista spent 15 years working in marketing and communications in the animal welfare field. She promoted adoptable animals, educated the public about veterinary health, and helped pass legislation to protect pets.

Krista holds a degree in communication from George Washington University and spent a summer studying marine science at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo. During her time in Hawaiʻi she earned a SCUBA diving certification, which helped fuel her passion for ocean conservation.

In her free time, Krista loves traveling, hiking, practicing yoga, SCUBA diving and trying new vegan restaurants.
