Be a Hero for Whales

Why does your support matter? You see, the health of animals like whales, our ocean and humans are interconnected. Yet the greatest threats to whales are caused by humans.

We’ve made positive impacts before—like freeing whales from ocean trash and conducting vital research that led to shipping lane changes—all because of this caring community.

Today, you can get your gift matched and help provide double the tools and resources experts need to continue this critical work. Together, we can protect these gentle giants and their ocean home.

Teacher Engagement Specialist

As the Teacher Engagement Specialist, Raquel oversees our award-winning middle school program Ocean Ambassadors.

Prior to joining the Center, Raquel spent 10 years with a local Association of Zoos and Aquariums organization as both an education program manager and assistant curator of outreach ambassador animals. In these roles, she worked closely with volunteers and a variety of ambassador animals ranging from small California tiger salamanders to an impressive golden eagle. Raquel used her leadership to ensure connections were built and conservation action was a key takeaway.

Raquel graduated with a B.S. in Biology with an emphasis in Zoology from San Francisco State University, where she focused on invertebrates and herpetology.

Outside of work, Raquel enjoys spending time at the ceramic studio, watching hockey games, traveling and attending live events.
