Abstract
Marine Mammals of the World is a field guide and handbook to all of the marine mammals of the world. It follows the internationally accepted taxonomy of the Society of Marine Mammalogy. All of world’s species are included and the account for each has information on common and scientific names, species characteristics, recognizable geographic forms, can be confused with information, distribution, a map, ecology and behavior, feeding and prey, threats and status, and IUCN status. There are also accounts for all species lost to extinction in modern times as well as a detailed introduction to marine mammal biology. The book is richly illustrated with photographs of all species and a plate for each species illustrated by Uko Gorter.
