California sea lion Irving was stranded in San Francisco. Thanks to our partners and people like you, he was rescued and brought to our hospital. Irving is now receiving expert medical care needed to recover.

Animal Care Crew Manager

As Animal Care Crew Manager for Sausalito animal care volunteers, Colby provides mentorship to animal care crew members, leadership coaching and issue management support for volunteer crew supervisors, onboarding for new volunteers, and training for med-level progression. She also ensures that night crews have regular staff presence and receive timely updates and communications from animal care and other program areas.

Colby is fascinated by marine mammal conservation biology and has over three years of experience in marine animal rescue and rehabilitation, including staff and internship positions at facilities such as the New York Marine Rescue Center, the Alaska SeaLife Center, the National Aquarium and Mote Marine Laboratory.

Colby received her master’s degree in Marine Mammal Science from the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science after graduating from the University of Richmond with a B.S. in Environmental Studies. She completed her master's research in gut content analysis of sea turtles impacted by red tide events in west-central Florida, working in collaboration with Mote Marine Laboratory's Stranding Investigations Program.

Outside of work, Colby thoroughly enjoys hiking, swimming, adventuring with her horse, Astrid, and being outdoors in general.
